Production Principle

Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate is produced by condensation of diethylamine and carbon disulfide in an alkaline solution at pH=8 at a temperature lower than 150°C. It is then compounded with zinc sulfate or zinc chloride to obtain the accelerator ZDEC. And then with zinc sulfate or zinc chloride complex decomposition reaction, to get the accelerator ZDEC.

Production Process(Two-Step Process)

In the condensation reaction pot, sodium hydroxide was dissolved in water to form 15% sodium hydroxide solution, and then diethylamine ice and carbon disulfide were added, and the condensation was carried out under stirring, and the temperature of the reaction was controlled below 15℃. The reaction temperature was controlled below 15℃. After 6h, when the pH value was about 8, the condensation reaction was finished, and the sodium diethyldithiocarbamate was obtained by filtration. Add 3-5 times of water to the reaction solution, and add about 10% zinc sulfate solution under stirring to produce zinc diethyldithiocarbamate precipitate. After centrifugal dewatering, washing, drying, crushing and screening, the accelerator ZDEC is obtained. zinc chloride or zinc oxide can also be used in the decomposition reaction.

Also used as a latex non-water-soluble accelerator, the stability of the latex has little effect, generally with water-soluble accelerators (such as ammonium or sodium salt of dithiocarbamic acid) or with other insoluble accelerators (such as zinc salt of other dithiocarbamates) and used to improve the speed of vulcanization is a thiazole and sulfonamide accelerators are good active agents, containing accelerators MBT, TMTD, or MBT(M) and TMTD and used in the Butyl rubber material has a strong activation effect, can greatly shorten its vulcanization time, can also be used for EPDM rubber, but the activation effect is not as strong as for butyl rubber. Mainly used in the manufacture of latex products, can also be used in the manufacture of medical products, adhesive tape and self-curing products. The general dosage is 0.1%~1.0% in dry glue material and 0.5%~1.0% in latex material.

When ZDEC is used as the primary accelerator in NR latexes, 1 part ZDEC to 2.5 parts sulfur is a good starting point. 1.5 parts ZDEC to 1 part ZMBT to 2.5 parts sulfur is a good starting point for NR or SBR-based styrofoam applications. In NR and SBR, ZDEC can often be used in conjunction with thiazole and sulfonamide accelerators in an amount of 0.1-0.4 parts. In EPDM rubber applications, ZDEC is often combined with other dithiocarbamate accelerators to minimize frosting, with the dosage depending on the specific application.
